Community Guidelines

Last updated: April 17, 2026

What I Am Watching is a community built around a shared love of movies and TV. These guidelines exist to keep that community welcoming, honest, and enjoyable for everyone. By using the app you agree to follow them. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or a permanent ban.

1. Be Respectful

Disagree with someone's taste? That's fine — film is subjective. But keep it civil. Personal attacks, harassment, threats, and bullying are never acceptable, whether in posts, comments, or direct messages. Treat every member the way you'd want to be treated.

  • No hate speech based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • No targeted harassment of individual users.
  • No threats of violence or encouragement of self-harm.
  • No doxxing — do not share someone's private information without their consent.

2. Post Honest, Relevant Content

Our community thrives on authentic opinions. Share your genuine thoughts about the movies and TV shows you've actually watched.

  • Do not write fake or misleading reviews.
  • Do not coordinate with others to artificially inflate or deflate ratings ("review bombing").
  • Keep posts on-topic — this is a platform for discussing film and television, not for unrelated commercial promotion.
  • Do not impersonate other users, celebrities, critics, or public figures.

3. Mark Spoilers

Spoilers can ruin the experience of a great story. If your post reveals plot twists, endings, or other key details, use the Contains Spoilers toggle before posting. Content marked as a spoiler will be hidden behind a tap, giving other users the choice to reveal it.

  • Always mark posts that discuss major plot points, character deaths, or endings.
  • Be especially careful with newly released content — give people time to watch before discussing freely.

4. No Offensive or Harmful Language

We automatically filter posts and comments that contain slurs, severe profanity, or language that targets individuals or groups. Content that triggers our filter will be blocked and you'll be asked to revise it. Repeated attempts to bypass the filter may result in account suspension.

  • No slurs or derogatory language targeting any group.
  • No content that glorifies or incites violence.
  • No sexually explicit content.
  • No content that exploits or harms minors.

5. No Spam or Self-Promotion

Keep the community free of clutter. Spam makes it harder for everyone to find genuine content.

  • Do not post repetitive or identical content across multiple posts.
  • Do not post unsolicited commercial advertisements or affiliate links.
  • Do not create multiple accounts to evade a ban or get around posting limits.

6. Respect Intellectual Property

Only post content you have the right to share.

  • Do not upload or link to pirated movies, TV episodes, or other copyrighted material.
  • Do not reproduce large excerpts from reviews or articles without attribution and permission.

7. Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it. You can flag any post using the flag icon on the post detail screen, or report a user directly from their profile. Our team reviews every report and aims to respond within 24 hours.

False or malicious reports — used to target users you simply disagree with — are themselves a violation of these guidelines.

8. Blocking Users

If someone is bothering you, you can block them from their profile page. Blocked users will not be able to see your posts or interact with your account. Blocking is a personal tool — use it alongside reporting if the behaviour also violates these guidelines.

9. Enforcement

We reserve the right to remove any content and take action on any account that violates these guidelines, at our sole discretion. Actions include:

  • Warning — a notice that a specific piece of content or behaviour was not acceptable.
  • Content removal — the offending post or comment is deleted.
  • Temporary suspension — access to the account is restricted for a period of time.
  • Permanent ban — the account is terminated and the user is prohibited from creating new accounts.

We aim to be consistent and fair, but safety takes priority. Severe violations (threats, illegal content, exploitation of minors) will result in an immediate permanent ban and, where required by law, will be reported to the relevant authorities.

10. Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these guidelines from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised guidelines.
